Notification Settings

Control how and when Cothon notifies you about important events. Configure in-app, email, and integration notifications.

Notification Channels

In-App Notifications

Notifications appear in the app:

• Bell icon in the header shows unread count
• Click to see notification center
• Mark as read or dismiss

Email Notifications

Receive notifications via email:

• Sent to your account email
• Can configure frequency
• Include unsubscribe links

Integration Notifications

Receive via connected services:

• Slack channels or DMs
• Microsoft Teams
• Webhooks to custom endpoints

Configuring Notifications

Quick Setup

Per-Notification Settings

For each notification type, configure:

• In-app: Show in notification center
• Email: Send to your email
• Slack: Post to connected channel
• Teams: Post to connected channel

Bulk Actions

Quickly configure multiple notifications:

• Enable All - Turn on all notifications
• Disable All - Turn off all notifications
• Reset to Defaults - Restore recommended settings

Email Frequency

Digest Options

Digest Timing

For non-instant digests:

• Daily: Choose delivery time (e.g., 9 AM)
• Weekly: Choose day and time
• Timezone: Uses your account timezone

Do Not Disturb

Enabling DND

Temporarily silence notifications:

1. Click bell icon in header
2. Select Do Not Disturb
3. Choose duration:
   • 1 hour
   • Until tomorrow
   • Custom time
   • Until I turn off

DND Behavior

During Do Not Disturb:

• No in-app popups
• No browser notifications
• Emails still queued (sent after DND)
• Notification center still collects alerts

Schedule DND

Set recurring quiet hours:

1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Schedule
2. Enable Quiet Hours
3. Set start and end time
4. Choose which days

Priority Notifications

Always Receive

Some notifications bypass DND:

• Security alerts (new device login)
• Urgent deadlines (same-day)
• Direct mentions by teammates

Setting Priority

Mark notification types as high-priority:

1. Go to notification settings
2. Click the star next to a notification type
3. Starred notifications bypass DND

Sound Settings

Notification Sounds

• Enable/disable notification sounds
• Choose sound from available options
• Volume control separate from system

Sound by Type

Different sounds for:

• Messages and mentions
• Deadline alerts
• System notifications

Browser Notifications

Enabling

1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Browser
2. Click Enable Browser Notifications
3. Allow in browser popup
4. Notifications appear even when tab not focused

Disabling

To stop browser notifications:

1. In Cothon: Settings > Notifications > Browser > Disable
2. Or in browser settings, revoke notification permission for cothon.ca

Mobile Notifications

Push Notifications (Coming Soon)

When mobile app launches:

• Push notifications for important alerts
• Configurable separately from desktop
• Rich notifications with quick actions

Email on Mobile

For now, use email notifications:

• Configure important alerts to email
• Use your phone's email app
• Set up email filters/folders

Notification History

Viewing History

1. Click bell icon
2. Scroll to see past notifications
3. Click View All for full history

History Retention

• In-app: Last 100 notifications
• Archived after 30 days
• Can export notification history

Searching History

1. Open notification center
2. Click search icon
3. Search by:
   • Keywords
   • Date range
   • Type

Testing Notifications

Send Test

Verify your settings work:

1. Go to Settings > Notifications
2. Click Send Test Notification
3. Choose channel (in-app, email, etc.)
4. Receive test notification

Troubleshooting

If not receiving notifications:

1. Check notification is enabled
2. Verify email address correct
3. Check spam/junk folder
4. Verify browser permissions
5. Check integration connection
